Top moments from the menswear shows during Paris Fashion
The Paris menswear shows have concluded for the current season, making way for a slew of haute couture exhibits. The fashion industry turned out in force to view the latest collections from some of the top menswear designers in the world, despite the chilly weather and a crippling transit strike.
The season-ending show on Sunday featured several firsts, including Usher’s surprising debut of his vibrantly colored hair and the eagerly anticipated partnership between Louis Vuitton and American designer Colm Dillane of KidSuper.

The inspiration and starting point for this season’s
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake’s collection was geometric shapes, with a strong emphasis on triangles, which demonstrated the many variations of how triangles and other angular elements can be twisted and manipulated into complex silhouettes and patterns.
Of course, there were plenty of the brand’s signature pleats, from pleated pants to folded accents on sleeveless shirts and coats to larger, looser folds that dropped from nylon outerwear’s shoulders.
Dance performances that demonstrated how beautifully the clothing moved were interspersed throughout the production while actors flowed in and out of a light show that, you guessed it, included additional geometric forms. Jenna Ortega, the star of the Netflix series “Wednesday,” appeared in Paris for Anthony Vaccarello’s debut men’s show for Saint Laurent wearing a black hooded, backless gown. The halter-type dress from the company’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection resembled Grace Jones’ well-known characteristic design. The actor, who sat front row, was clearly enthralled with Charlotte Gainsbourg’s piano performance, which served as the show’s epilogue. Statement footwear is nothing new for Rick Owens, whose dizzying Kiss platforms have gained cult status. With a boot that gave a much chunkier profile up the leg and included substantial padding held together by leather buckled straps, the American designer explored orthopedic chic this season. With her electric performance for the Louis Vuitton fashion show, which debuted a new collection with its first guest design director, Colm Dillane of KidSuper, Spanish popstar Rosala tore the roof off the Louvre. The performer launched the show with a performance of her classic song “Candy” while walking down the runway in an all-white, enormous garment while holding a torch that flashed the French label’s trademark emblem.
Elegant tailoring, utilitarian clothing, separate sportswear influence, and patchwork coats were all featured in the Fall/Winter 2023 collection. The importance of music to Dries Van Noten has never changed. Devoted fans will recall his Fall/Winter 2011 performance, which featured specially mixed David Bowie masters. The event was held in a multi-level parking garage
and featured a steel cart selling beer while experimental artists played soft techno sounds. On drums and synths, Belgium’s Lander & Adriaan played what the program notes referred to as “sophistic-rave” at the top. The hypnotic soundtrack created the mood for the new collection, which included spacious 90s-style cargo pants, furry clogs, fitted coats with nipped waists, and outerwear that ranged from enormous puffer jackets with abstract designs to tailored coats with nipped waists. The well-known designer Junya Watanabe chose to create a collection that is primarily monochromatic to honor the various companies he has collaborated with over the years, including New Balance, Oakley, North Face, and Timberland. The recognizable Tri-Ferg logo from Palace, the London-based skatewear company, was also visible on the runway on a black parka-puffer hybrid garment. One more first. Nigo, the artistic director of Kenzo, has long been an anglophile, and his affinity for The Beatles dates back to at least 1999 when he starred in a Relax Magazine cover photo with an Abbey Road theme. The Japanese designer compared the clothing to the legendary “The White Album” in the show notes of his third collection for the company, citing the eclectic mix of cultural and fashion elements drawn from the Brits, Americans, and of course the Japanese. The 1966 Quartet, an all-female Japanese quartet, gave a spirited rendition of “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” during the presentation, which was staged in a concert hall in Paris. While models walked around them, the new fab four had the entire music hall singing and cheering.
Supermodel Tyra Banks presented KidSuper’s “Funny Business” fashion comedy show, which was jam-packed with editors, guests, and fashion insiders outside the Casino de Paris. An outstanding array of comedians, including Jeff Ross, Emmy-nominated actress Yvonne Orji, and French comedian Fary, roast the brand’s founder Colm Dillane while sporting the new range, which was inspired by Netflix’s comedy specials. The concept was tailoring with a twist, with artistic peacoats covered with watercolor brush strokes and suiting stitched with a tailor’s chalk mark.
