Size Matters: iPhone 14 Plus Sales Surpass Expectations, Leaving iPhone 13 Mini Behind

2 minutes, 27 seconds Read

Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup launched in September 2022 has been a huge hit among consumers, outperforming its predecessor, the iPhone 13 series, in terms of popularity. Despite being priced at the same level as the iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 14 lineup introduced several enhancements that have made it more attractive to buyers.

The new lineup features an exclusive color option, improved thermal performance, and a restructured design that promotes consistent heat dissipation throughout the entire surface. In this blog, we’ll discuss the latest reports from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) on the relative commercial success of each iPhone 14 model.

iPhone 14 Lineup Outperforms iPhone 13

According to the report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the iPhone 14 lineup is more popular than its predecessor, with a 2% increase in display shipments year on year as of April.

The improved performance of the iPhone 14 lineup is due to its better thermal performance, which reduces the risk of thermal throttling. Both lineups introduced an exclusive new color option in the subsequent year of their releases.

Regular iPhone 14 Sales Drop, Pro Models Perform Better

The report suggests that revenue from this year’s lineup is likely to be higher as Apple sells even more high-end models at the expense of lower-end ones. Sales of the regular iPhone 14 model have decreased by 36%, while those of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have increased by 22% and 23%, respectively.

The Pro models have consistently outperformed the regular ones over the years, with Apple pricing its newer models at the same price as its predecessors.

iPhone 14 Plus Beats iPhone 13 Mini

The report settles the debate of “mini versus Plus” by revealing that the display shipments for the iPhone 14 Plus are up by 59% compared to the iPhone 13 mini.

Despite this surge, the iPhone 14 Plus remains the least popular model in the iPhone 14 lineup. The iPhone 14 Plus features a 6.7-inch display, is powered by the A15 Bionic chipset, and runs iOS 16 out-of-the-box.

It also features a dual rear camera unit including a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The front selfie camera on the model is a 12-megapixel TrueDepth sensor.

iPhone 13 Mini Specifications

The iPhone 13 mini sports a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, is powered by an A15 Bionic SoC, and features a dual rear camera setup that houses a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor. There’s also a 12-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. Apple claims the iPhone 13 mini offers 1.5 hours longer battery life compared to its predecessors without revealing battery capacity.

Despite the pandemic and other issues, the iPhone 14 lineup has performed remarkably well in the market. Apple has managed to beat the competition with its innovative design and features, offering consumers an excellent choice of high-end models. The Pro models continue to dominate the market, with their exceptional performance and cutting-edge technology.

The iPhone 14 Plus has outperformed the iPhone 13 mini in terms of display shipments, but it still remains the least popular model in the iPhone 14 lineup.
