Chlorine Dioxide (CDS) is a water purification chemical that also works as a bleach. It is a safe, effective and natural disinfectant and it kills pathogens, parasites and disease-causing organisms.
It is often marketed as a cure-all for autism, cancer, malaria, hepatitis viruses and most recently coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There are no published scientific studies to support these claims.
It is an oxidant
Chlorine dioxide is an oxidant that is effective against a wide range of pathogens such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. It is used as an oxidizer in the treatment of drinking water and also in industrial processes such as sewage water disinfection.
It is a very strong oxidizer that oxidises phenol type compounds, secondary and tertiary amines as well as organic sulphides and certain hydrocarbon polycyclic aromatics.
When oxidized, chlorine dioxide attacks the electron-rich centres of organic molecules, which gives them one free electron. As a result, the molecular bonds of these molecules are broken and they die.
Because of its one-electron exchange mechanism, chlorine dioxide is very selective and reacts only with substances that give off an electron. As a result, it is less harmful than other oxidizing agents. Moreover, it does not form halogenated disinfection byproducts such as trihalomethanes and does not oxidize bromide into bromine.
It is a bleach
Chlorine dioxide is an oxidant, a disinfectant and an industrial bleaching agent. It’s used for water disinfection in many countries, including the United States.
It is also used in textile production and in the chemical industry. It is a yellowish-green gas that dissolves in water and has excellent distribution, penetration and sterilization capabilities because of its gaseous nature.
However, it is not a safe or effective disinfectant for drinking water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates the maximum concentration of chlorine dioxide in water to be no more than 0.8 parts per million.
A growing movement originating in a Florida church is promoting a product called Miracle Mineral Solution, or CDS. It’s a diluted version of sodium chlorite that is sold with citric acid “activator.” When mixed according to package directions, it turns into chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleaching agent.
Health officials are concerned that these products are being consumed by people who do not know how to use them properly and could result in serious, sometimes fatal, side effects such as respiratory failure, life-threatening low blood pressure and severe vomiting & diarrhea.
It is a natural medicine
Chlorine dioxide is a natural medicine and has a strong positive impact on human health. It is a oxidant that helps the body to fight diseases.
It is a substance that provides oxygen to tissues and all the body’s fluids. It also activates the mitochondria, which in turn generate more energy.
Another benefit of chlorine dioxide is its capacity to cure cancer. Its use in combination with a-lipoic acid and hydroxycitrate has been proven to slow the growth of a variety of tumor models.
In addition, it is a good antimicrobial agent. However, there are many side effects of drinking chlorine dioxide, including vomiting and diarrhea.
In Peru, a number of people are buying chlorine dioxide kits and drinking it to try to cure COVID-19. These kits are marketed under various names, including Miracle Mineral Solution and Master Mineral Solution.
It is a preventive medicine
This yellow-green gas was used as a disinfectant in paper industry, decontamination of public buildings, and water purification. Its high reactivity, however, makes it toxic to bacteria and fungi.
It can be used in hospital environments as a disinfectant to kill resistant germs that are difficult to disinfect with chemical and radiation disinfection methods. It also can improve the air quality of indoor spaces by killing microorganisms.
The use of CDS chlorine Dioxide as a preventive medicine is not widespread in the Peruvian population. Compared to the consumption of CDS for prevention, consumption of it as treatment was twice as prevalent (8% and 16%).
The findings of this study suggest that the consumption of chlorite and chlorine dioxide as a preventive medicine is associated with age, higher education, and urban sector. This is because older people generally prefer more natural methods to prevent diseases. Likewise, patients with comorbidities are more likely to consume this substance, which may be due to the fear of COVID-19 worsening or death.
